What is Hills Café?
Hills Café is a not for profit community café based in Micklefield. We are a CIC (Community Interest Company) which means we exist primarily to benefit the community. We take this responsibility seriously, we love working together to make the community a better place to live, work and play.
We operate a fully functioning café, alongside meeting our social aims of providing a place for the community to meet, raising aspirations of the area by providing a qualify café and offering volunteer placements for local residents to gain confidence, skills and qualifications.

We aim to create an inclusive place where the whole community feels welcome and at home.
We seek to provide simple yet quality food and refreshment, using local and ethically sourced ingredients where possible, even growing our own when we can! We want people to feel more connected with where their food comes from.We are different from your usual business.
We are a not for profit social enterprise, so that the money we make is invested back into the project to provide more opportunities for local people.We are more interested in growing people than growing profits.
As well as reducing isolation by providing a point of contact for people in the community we want to provide volunteering opportunities, to invest in people of all ages and all backgrounds, providing training, building confidence and helping people to move on in life.
Who keeps the show on the road?
There is a small but dedicated team of volunteer Directors who are the ones strategizing, making big decisions and keeping the business on the road… often we do all of these things and volunteer to wash up when we are short on man power!
We have a fantastic staff team. They go above and beyond for us frequently, keeping the show on the road and keeping customers happy. We wouldn’t be doing any of the fantastic stuff we do without them!
Our team of volunteers, ‘Hills Angels’. Explaining quite how wonderful they are is difficult. We have volunteers from all walks of life and for all kinds of reasons. Some love the company and chatty nature of being in the café, some come to gain back to work skills and recognised transferable qualifications, some are gaining confidence and trialling a work environment. We have volunteers in daily completing all kinds of jobs from washing up, picking up the sausages from the butchers to serving you on the till.
Finally lets not forget you, our valued customers. You support us by coming in and socialising with your friends, by purchasing coffee and giving us feedback, by hosting your events in the café and making use of the space. This would all be a waste of time without you, so thank you!
